About this good practice
The organisation of a conference of innovation stakeholders from the Lead Market Chemistry and Bioeconomy has taken inspirations from the interregional exchange of experience with the focus on improving stakeholder involvement and governance.
The governance structure in Saxony-Anhalt relied on regular meetings of the Lead Market Working Group for Chemistry and Bioeconomy. These meetings were organised on every 3-6 months. A major shortcoming has been identified in the participant structure of these meetings, where more or less the same people met each other and also companies where underrepresented.
Thus, Saxony-Anhalt decided to organise a large conference of the lead market in November 2018 in Quedlinburg. This conference has been organised in close cooperation with the clusters chemistry plastics Central Germany, the bioeconomy cluster and the Fraunhofer Research Institute IMWS. During this meeting, the current progress of the implementation of the RIS was presented and several companies and research institutes presented their ongoing research. A large area for presentation of posters was given to all interested stakeholders, where many projects have been presented. The meeting was successful in bringing together a larger group of innovation stakeholders from the lead market also attracting companies. It was a good forum for thematic discussion and networking. The Ministry of Economy Saxony-Anhalt plans to organise a similar conference in 2020 and 2021.

Resources needed
The costs for the organisation of the event are estimated 2 full man-months of employees working in the Ministry of Economy, Science and Digitalisation Saxony-Anhalt, the clusters and the Fraunhofer IMWS. Hard costs are estimated at about 20.000 Euro for room rent, catering, etc.
Evidence of success
The 1st Future Dialogue on Chemistry and Bioeconomy has proved its success in providing a platform for discussion on the implementation of the RIS and to promote networking of innovation stakeholders. Around 60 participants from companies, science and administration could be attracted. In the past format as working group meeting neither high company participation nor the quantity of participants could be achieved. The positive stakeholder feedback induced the continuation of this event format.
Potential for learning or transfer
Inspired by larger scale events of the S3Chem Partners from Lombardy and Catalonia the Future Dialogue on Chemistry and Bioeconomy has proved its success in Saxony-Anhalt. The format of a regular, yearly, large scale conference to bring together relevant stakeholders to discuss current topics in chemistry and bioeconomy has great potential for further transfer. Instead of small working groups in this kind of event all major players in the field of chemistry and bioeconomy get an comprehensive overview of present and future activities of the branch in the region allowing increased opportunities for further cooperation among them.
Further transfer to other regions or even a joint event of this format would further improve possibilities for interregional exchange of experience and collaboration
