This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
Statistical data show that as a result of agricultural production, there is a surplus of biomass each year, which after processing can be used to produce solid biofuels for combustion in properly prepared boilers. Burning such material guarantees reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. In addition, biomass does not produce harmful chemicals, as in case of burning of fossil fuels. During the biomass combustion cycle, plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. Burning biomass does not cause a greenhouse effect and the ash residue can be used as a mineral fertilizer. According to experts, construction of the biomass boiler house was economical and ecological. The investment may also improve financial situation of local farmers interested in growing energy crops or developing other biomass surpluses. Also a plus for the poviat itself, with local government on the task of reducing harmful emissions and promoting energy from renewable sources.
Resources needed
The project received funding from the ERDF under the 2007 - 2013 ROP of the Lubelskie Voivodeship, Priority Axis VI Environment and clean energy, Actions 6.2 Environmentally friendly energy.
The total value of the project was around: 707 000 Euro and amount of funding from the ERDF: 601 000 Euro.
The total value of the project was around: 707 000 Euro and amount of funding from the ERDF: 601 000 Euro.
Evidence of success
Thanks to this action, the consumption of energy from renewable energy sources has increased, the amount of greenhouse gases and other harmful substances emitted to the atmosphere has been reduced, the costs of thermal energy production have been minimized, the dependence of heating systems on conventional energy resources has been reduced, and the amount of waste generated in the process of burning traditional energy raw materials has been reduced.
Potential for learning or transfer
On a regional scale, many such facilities can be created thanks to EU subsidies, especially in the Lubelskie region. Such solutions are very desirable in agricultural areas where it is possible to easily obtain the raw material with no high expenditure on its transport.
