Smarta Kartan Takes the Spotlight at Malmö’s Good Cities Day of Sharing

The City of Malmö’s Environmental Department participated at the Overshoot festival through, hosting the Good Cities Day. Together with local partners, the city created space for inspiration, conversation, and hands-on action in Folkets Park, where an estimated 2,000 people visited the festival.

The Overshoot Festival was co-created by 50 organizations who contributed to the festival in different ways. The City of Malmö was there to engage directly with citizens in open and inclusive conversations about consumption habits and the potential of the sharing economy — across all socioeconomic backgrounds.

What took place:

  • The Smarta Kartan — a map that visualizes places in Malmö where people can share, borrow, rent, repair, or buy second-hand items — was relaunched, this time in printed form. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and many visitors expressed that it was both helpful and long-awaited.

  • Coffee and conversations were offered about consumption-based emissions and alternatives to ownership — like borrowing, swapping, and sharing.

  • The city partnered with Collaborative Economy Sweden to spread awareness about local sharing services.

  • Ödet hosted dialogues about what sharing can look like in everyday life and explored what people want to share and with whom.

  • Drevet held a drop-in textile workshop to inspire upcycling and creative reuse.

Reflections from the day:

The energy was high, the conversations meaningful, and the City of Malmö connected with many residents. The day highlighted both the urgency of the current climate situation and the hope that comes from collective action and community-driven solutions.

Special thanks were extended to Drevet, Ödet, and Kollaborativ Ekonomi Sverige — partnerships like these add great value.
