On September 12 the presentation of the project Roadmap of transition to circular economy of Slovenia took place at the Celje International Trade Fair. The Roadmap will present a proposal for guidelines for utilization of potentials in Slovenia for the transition to a circular economy and support the involvement of stakeholders.

In the period till the end of April 2018, this process, which is led by a project team of experts, headed by dr. Janez Potočnik, will involve a wide circle of interested participants from economy, educational and research sphere, competent ministries and non-governmental organizations. In its recommendations, the Roadmap will state the priority areas of the systemic transition based on good practices, identified opportunities and obstacles to a successful transition.

The main objectives of the project are to identify and evaluate the regional and local potentials of Slovenia for the transition to green and circular economy, to include the widest range of stakeholders in the process of identifying potentials and to prepare guidelines and proposals for Slovenia's transition to green and circular economy. Within the Roadmap preparation process, the organizers will organize 12 regional consultations, including representatives of local communities, where challenges of transition, opportunities, obstacles and priorities will be identified and discussed.

Public disclosure of the draft document is scheduled for November 30, 2017. This will be followed by a public debate and the involvement of all interested stakeholders in the process of finalizing the Roadmap until the end of March 2018. The final document will be published end of April 2018.

The Association of Municipalities and Towns of Slovenia will be involved in the preparation process as a multiplier within the Ellen Mc Arthur Foundation.
