In 2015, the French government issues the so-called NOTRe law, in order to decentralize further competencies, e.g. waste management, to the regional authorities.

The Hauts-de-France regional council is therefore putting in place a new strategy for the regional waste management. This new strategy will be based on the principles of circular economy.

On September 13, 2017, the Hauts-de-France regional council invited regional stakeholders for a discussion about the circular economy strategy for the regional waste management. Over 100 stakeholders from public and private organizations (municipalities, clusters, universities, companies, etc.) attended the event.

The objective of the event was to let the experts present their experiences with circular economy Many regional and French experiences were presented. Some European examples were also mentioned, including the INTERREG projects RETEX (textile recycling) and VALDEM (recycling of deconstruction waste) as well as the CIRCE project.

Some working groups were created to further discuss the circular economy related experiences and to develop the new waste management strategy. The cd2e will participate in the working groups and, of course, bring in the relevant experiences from the CIRCE project.
