On 20th of October 2020, the Blue Green City project team within the Bucharest-Ilfov Regional Development Agency attended the webinar Better regional policies to protect and restore nature.
The event was organized by the Policy Learning Platform of the Interreg Europe Program in the framework of the European Green Week – the largest European annual conference on environmental policies, which took place at European level between 19th and 22nd of October 2020.
Through this webinar, the organizers set out to present successful regional policies on the protection and restoration of the European natural heritage, as well as key factors for their large-scale implementation, taking into account the objectives of the new EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.
The participants had the opportunity to interact with experts in the field, share experiences, hear about success stories and find answers to questions on the development of regional policies on the protection and restoration of nature. Examples of better governance, supporting and facilitating multi-regional partnerships with stakeholders that develop and implement biodiversity-related projects have also been presented. In addition, the importance of linking biodiversity data to conservation decision-making processes was emphasized.
The keynote speakers of the event were Ms. Karin Zaunberger (European Commission – Directorate-General for Environment) who spoke about the new EU Biodiversity Strategy and Mr. Erik Gerritsen (Institute for European Environmental Policy) who underlined the importance of preserving biodiversity in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
