The Institute of Technology, Sligo (IE) is organising a site visit to the Polecat Springs Group Water Scheme near Elphin in the county Roscommon in July 2020. The site visit is for the regional stakeholders of AgroRES project.

The Group Water Schemes (GWS) in Ireland are rural cooperatives that own the local water supply treatment plants. The Polecat Springs Group Water Scheme has become the first GWS to use renewable energy to directly power its water treatment plant. The community group in Polecat installed a 50kW Solar photovoltaic (PV) system to reduce the overall running costs of the water scheme by approx. 70%.
