The RECREATE project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and implemented under the Interreg Europe programme. Its aim is to improve the capacity and capability of regional transport Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in five European Regions: West Midlands (UK), Campania Region (Italy), South Aegean Region (Greece), Lithuania and South West Oltenia (Romania).

Within the project, a “Transport SME Competitiveness” report has been developed and is available online on the project website in the library section (www.interregeurope.eu/fileadmin/user_upload/tx_tevprojects/library/file_1580384340.pdf ).

The report has the overall objective of describing the status quo of the SMEs in the transport sector in the five participating Regions. The analysis is conducted using desk-based research of relevant literature on Transport SMEs and transport sector innovation systems as well as interviews and/or questionnaires with selected Transport SMEs and Business support organisations.

The report includes an analysis for each region covering geography and governance, major towns and cities and accessibility, labour market and economy, transport infrastructure, main regional/local stakeholders, regional policy on Transport SMEs, challenges for Transport SMEs to develop and commercialise their products, opportunities and obstacles for transport SMEs, megatrends and future concepts, financing of Transport SMEs Innovation/Products, SWOT analysis. From this comprehensive investigation, the report concludes highlighting the main peculiarities and differences between the regions.

A ‘slim version’ of the report is also currently being developed and will be available online in English, Italian, Greek, Lithuanian and Romanian languages.
