With this post, we start the presentation of the CAPonLITTER Consortium partners!

The institution:

The CAPonLITTER project is coordinated by a team from NOVA University Lisbon – NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT-NOVA), the Lead Partner (LP1), from Portugal. This team was responsible for the project application to Interreg Europe and manages the project. They are responsible for assuring that everything goes well, on the scientific and bureaucratic aspects of the project. 

FCT-NOVA is one of the three largest and most prestigious school of Engineering and Sciences in Portugal. It was founded in 1977 and it is located on the Campus of Caparica, in Almada Municipality, Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

The team:

The FCT-NOVA team is constituted by a team of researchers in different fields of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, like marine litter, environmental education and coastal management. That team is also integrated into the MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre.

José Carlos Ferreira is the Project Coordinator and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (DCEA) of FCT-NOVA. José Carlos has many years of expertise in coastal areas management and risk assessment. He is responsible for coordinating the scientific methodology of the project.

Lia Vasconcelos is the co-coordinator of the project and also an Assistant Professor of the same department of FCT-NOVA. With many years of experience in participatory processes, she is responsible for managing the public participation methodologies of the CAPonLITTER project.

Cláudio Duarte is the Project Manager. He is a PhD student and a researcher of DCEA/FCT-NOVA. He also has experience in environmental education projects, public participation and coastal management and risk assessment. He oversees the project management and the coordination of internal and external communication.

Other researchers from the same team help on some tasks: Filipa Ferreira, Renato Monteiro and Catarina Jóia Santos.

There are two more essential persons on the team. Juliana Brito Monteiro is the Executive Director of IRIS – Innovation and Research Impact Strategy of FCT-NOVA. She and her team support on the administrative and financial sections of the project, since its application. Sandra Cordeiro, from the Division of Financial Resources – Projects Section of FCT-NOVA, is the financial and reporting manager of the project.

Finally, the FCT-NOVA team counts with two experts, important for the project application. Paula Sobral and Graça Martinho are two professors of DCEA/FCT-NOVA that are experts on marine litter and on waste management, respectively.

Together, this team wants to contribute to the success of this project and its objectives! They will bring their expertise to CAPonLITTER and work together with the other Portuguese Partner (APA – Portuguese Environmental Agency) and the other European partners to assure the best results, in Portugal and in the other countries of the project.
